Kenya Land Alliance (KLA) is an umbrella network of Civil Society Organizations and individuals across Kenya who are committed to effective advocacy for the reform of policies and laws governing land in Kenya. The organization was established to create an institutional mechanism to advocate for enabling land laws and policies in order to ensure secure and equitable access to land and natural resources in Kenya.
In a bid to ensure sustainable achievement of our mission, Kenya Land Alliance is seeking to engage a reputable audit firm to carry-out the statutory audit for the financial year ending December 31, 2025.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE AUDITOR
The external auditor shall be required to:
1. Conduct independent audits of Kenya Land Alliance operations in line with International Standards on Auditing (ISAs) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
2. Express an opinion on whether the financial statements are prepared, in all material respects, in accordance with the applicable financial reporting standards and frameworks, whether the organization has maintained proper books of accounts, and whether the accompanying financial statements give a true and fair view of the financial position and performance of the organization.
3. Review and evaluate internal control systems and advise the Kenya Land Alliance management on adequacy/effectiveness of the system and make proposals for improvement.
4. Assess utilization of resources for effectiveness, efficiency and economy as well as identification of opportunities for improvement.
5. Ensure the organization adheres to governance requirements and legislation that govern the organization.
6. Provide any other value-addition services as approved by the Procurement Committee.
DELIVERABLES
The key deliverables will be:
1. Audit financial statements indicating if accounting standards have been applied and whether they reflect a true and fair view of the financial position of the organization.
2. Management letter where matters that are not material to the financial statements, but which the auditors wish to communicate to Kenya Land Alliance may be reflected for management action.
3. Evaluate and advise on the organization’s corporate governance practices.
REQUIRED PROFILE OF THE AUDIT FIRM
Bidding firms will be required to meet the following criteria:
1. Be registered with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and must hold a current Practicing Certificate.
2. Should have been in operation for a period of at least five years.
3. Should demonstrate that it has the capacity, capability and experience required to undertake the audit within required time lines.
4. Provide references for similar audits performed within the last three years (From 2022 and above).
5. Provide audit methodology, proposed work-plan, curriculum vitae for the partner, manager and key staff proposed for the audit team.
REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL SUBMISSION
Firms meeting the above criteria are requested to submit their proposals through email as follows:
This proposal shall contain:
a) Confirmation of the firm’s understanding of the Terms of Reference (TORs) and its capacity and capability to deliver on the TORs;
b) The methodology, work-plan and timelines for undertaking and completing the assignment, and the deliverables;
c) Appropriate references to demonstrate the experience specified in the TOR;
d) The CVs of key staff proposed to carry out the assignment.
2. Financial Proposal
This should indicate the proposed fees for a regular audit and any incidental expenses.
3. Other Requirements
a) Proof of registration with ICPAK and copies of partners’ Practicing Certificates.
b) Details of at least three (3) prior audit assignments (within the last 3 years), including the contact details of the references.
c) A schedule outlining tentative dates for completion of the audit process.
