Position: Legal Assistant – Taita Taveta County

Terms Of Employment: 6 Months Contract

About Us

The Kenya Land Alliance (KLA) formally a Trust and registered as an NGO in July 2013 was established to create an institutional mechanism to advocate for enabling land laws and policies in order to ensure secure and equitable access to land and natural resources in Kenya. Since inception, Kenya Land Alliance has experienced remarkable growth. As a result of its activities, KLA has curved a niche in lobbying and advocacy for reforms of land laws and policies in Kenya.

 

Purpose Of The Position

The Legal Assistant will work closely with communities to ensure that we address land rights matters within Taita Taveta County.

 

Job Description

  • Handle all matters from clients at the information hub by offering advice.
  • Analyze and process legal cases received in compliance with relevant guidelines and requirements.
  • Collect crucial data, carry out database update, tracking follow up actions and approvals of  cases.
  • Assist in the preparation of legal documents for related cases.
  • Render initial technical support to community members.
  • Ensure that reference files and records are maintained.
  • Coordinate administrative services, preparing and monitoring requests, liaising with relevant officers at KLA.

 

Candidate’s Requirements

 

Academic

  • A Bachelors of Law degree (LLB).
  • Post graduate diploma of law from Kenya School of Law.

 

Experience

  • Two years working preferably with an NGO.
  • Good proposal writing skill.

 

Competences and Attributes

  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Team player.
  • Preferably a Taita Taveta County resident.
